#maptimeDavis – Python for Field Calculations in QGIS and ArcGIS

Python_For_Field_Calculations

When:
February 13th, 2019
@ 10:00 – 12:00 pm
Location:
360 Shields Library
(DSI Classroom)
Cost: Totally FREE!
Prerequisite:
Install QGIS (3.x)
Presenters: Nick Santos

About: In this workshop, we’ll practice field calculations – inserting values into vector data attribute tables – as a way to learn Python for GIS. You’ll leave knowing enough of Python to put it into use after the workshop, know where to go to learn more, and apply it more broadly in GIS.

We will learn a few Python concepts, then apply it by cleaning data, classifying records, and computing values as new attributes. This workshop is built for those with no Python experience, but will also provide concrete skills to those who know some Python, but haven’t applied it within GIS or for field calculations. Make Python your date and learn to calculate. See you there!

How to prepare:

    1. Register for Event.
    2. Come with a computer that has QGIS (3.x) or ArcGIS (ArcMap will be demoed, but ArcGIS Pro is OK) installed.

#maptimeDavis is brought to you by the UC Davis Library’s Data Management Program & the UC Davis Center for Spatial Sciences with help from several campus clubs and informal learning groups.  Space is generously provided by the Data Science Initiative (DSI).
